Daniela Droz’s mirror relies on apophony and its illusions.
A sharpened metal blade, it splits the space it deconstructs as much by its reflecting surface as by its brilliant structures, which themselves seem to contain a mirror.
Illusion.
Its sharp, threatening aspect is not without reference to the legendary scene of introduction in An Andalusian Dog (1929) by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí, in which a cloud cuts the moon before a razor blade slices an eye.
Here, it is our gaze that seems to be split, so troubled is our visual perception.
